MILWAUKIE, Ore. – The Portland Timbers U-23s made a strong push in the second half, outshooting Calgary Foothills FC 8-4, but could not overcome a two-goal deficit in the first half, falling 3-1 at Alder Creek Middle School on Sunday afternoon.

Werner cut back towards the middle and dribbled into the box, firing a shot that was saved by the goalkeeper.
Foothills FC grabbed the lead with a pair of goals in the 23rd and 38th minutes. The Timbers U-23s nearly cut their deficit in half as a free kick by forward Mo Thiaw hit the crossbar in first-half stoppage time. Moments later on a Portland corner kick, defender Roy Boateng’s close range attempt was blocked seconds before the end of the first half.
The Timbers U-23s remained on the front foot, registering eight shots in the second half. Moving quickly on the break, Langsdorf dribbled into the box and delivered a hard shot from close range, but the Calgary goalkeeper made a kick save to stop the attempt in the 48th minute.
In the 61st minute, a Portland player was pulled down inside the box and the Timbers U-23s were awarded a penalty kick. Forward Jorge Herranz stepped to the spot and converted, placing his shot into the back of the net to make it a 2-1 game.
