Portland Timbers midfielder David Guzmán is currently off with the Costa Rica national team taking part in a pair of crucial 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifiers. After playing 30 minutes in the Ticos' 2-0 loss to Mexico last Friday, Guzman and Costa Rica take on Honduras Wednesday in San Pedro de Sula.
In between matches, however, the team has been training in Costa Rica and Guzman found a moment to give back to some local school kids in the Hatillo district of San Jose by donating a collection of shirts and equipment courtesy of the Timbers community outreach platform Stand Together.
Says Guzman, in translation:
"Thanks to God, football has allowed me to experience different experiences. Today with the support of the Portland Timbers we deliver these shirts to the boys and girls of La Escuela de Fútbol de Hatillo #6 that they strive and dream like I did a few years ago. We must motivate them to continue practicing this sport and any other that they wish. They are our future."
