PTFC: From the Archives #Statman Edition | Thorns secure second title

Lindsay Horan, NWSL Championship, 10.14.17

In 2017, Portland Thorns FC won their second NWSL Championship by defeating the North Carolina Courage, 1-0 in Orlando. Tune in to FOX 12 Oregon KPTV on April 4 at 3pm PT to see a special rebroadcast of this historic match and watch online at ThornsFC.com, presented by Providence Health & Services. Here are five numbers to know ahead of the game.

5 On her way to the shutout, goalkeeper Adrianna Franch delivered five saves. In her eight NWSL playoff games in her career, Franch has never made more than those five saves.

2X2Lindsey Horan was named NWSL Championship Most Valuable Player and then followed that up a year later by being named the 2018 NWSL Most Valuable Payer. Horan is one of only two players ever to win league MVP and Championship MVP honors in their career, along with Lauren Holiday.

8 The victory capped an eight-game, season-ending unbeaten streak for the Thorns. The club went 7-0-1 in that stretch, scoring 17 goals and conceding just three.

2 Defender Emily Sonnett delivered a perfect long-range free kick on Horan's goal. It was just the second assist of Sonnett's career with both of them coming from set pieces.

3 The championship was the third in five years for the PTFC organization with the Thorns winning in 2013 and 2017 and Timbers winning MLS Cup in 2015. General Manager and President of Soccer Gavin Wilkinson is one of three people ever to be general manager of three top-flight champions in five years (Kevin Payne and Bruce Arena).
