It took Portland Timbers midfielder Darlington Nagbe six years as a professional before finally earning his first trip to the annual MLS All-Star game.
According to Nagbe, it was worth the wait.
At the beginning of the second half against Arsenal, Nagbe finally got his turn to represent the league on the field, coming in as a substitute for Real Salt Lake midfielder Kyle Beckerman.
“Getting the chance to step out onto the field with [the Arsenal players] was cool,” Nagbe said of the moment he subbed into the match.
While Nagbe made the most of his limited time on the field, running right at Arsenal's midfield and sending cutting passes left and right, it was the camaraderie that developed off of it that he appreciated the most.
“I'm just a fan of the game, so seeing these guys, some of these great players, and having the opportunity to step out onto the same field as them and be teammates with them for a couple days was fun,” he said of training alongside legends of the game like Didier Drogba and Andrea Pirlo.
