New Timbers defender Finn Surman played the full match in the Kiwi's opening Group A match in Paris
NICE, FRANCE — Portland Timbers' most recent defensive signing Finn Surman has made his debut with the New Zealand Olympic Team at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Selected to the starting eleven by head coach Darren Bazeley, Surman put in a solid performance in a 2-1 victory over Guinea to kickoff their Olympic journey.
Signed by the Timbers on July 19, Surman traveled accross the pond soon after to join his New Zealand teammates in France. Placed in Group A with Guinea, USA, and hosts France, the Kiwis are off to a great start after registering an opening win against their group rivals. Finn Surman started and played the full match at centerback, registering 45 of 54 completed passes (83%) in 75 touches, 60% accuracy with his long balls (3/5), and successfully won his only tackle of the match.

The Kiwi's have two days off before taking on the U.S. in their second Group A match on Saturday, July 27. Kickoff from Marseille is set for 10am PT and will be avilable to watch on the USA Network, Peacock or NBC.com
