Celebrating 50 years of Portland soccer with an All-Time XI unveiling, special team reunions, heritage nights and more.
The Timbers 50th Anniversary season, presented by Toyota, is under way and there is a host of exciting anniversary year celebrations as well as heritage nights on the calendar to look forward to. From celebrating the club's first-ever team from 1975, to looking back to the 10th anniversary of the 2015 MLS Cup triumph, to unveiling an All-Time Timbers XI, the 50th anniversary nights each have a special element to celebrate.
Additionally, a host of cultural celebrations are set for 2025 with AAPI, Pride, Native American and Hispanic Heritage evenings all part of the season. Read on to find out more.
50th Anniversary Celebration Events, presented by Toyota
Spirit of 75 Night | June 13 vs. San Jose Earthquakes
This evening commemorates the original 1975 inaugural North American Soccer League Timbers team. In their first ever season, the Timbers won a Western Division title and earned the most points in the NASL on their way to a Soccer Bowl ’75 appearance. Featuring numerous club legends, the evening will feature a halftime recognition honoring players from that team.
MLS Cup 10th Anniversary Night | July 17 vs. Real Salt Lake
In 2015, the Timbers put together a magical postseason run which included moments like the “Double Post” match, defeating Cascadia rival Vancouver and more, all culminating in Portland winning its first major trophy in the modern era—the 2015 MLS Cup. This night celebrates the 10-year anniversary of that feat with many past club greats from that team in attendance for a halftime recognition.
50th Anniversary Night | July 19 vs. Minnesota United FC
From NASL to USL to MLS, this night celebrates 50 years of Timbers soccer in the Rose City. The evening will feature the unveiling of an All-Time Timbers XI – voted on by fans – recognizing the best players from across all eras of team history with many of them in attendance.
Diego Chara Bobblehead Night | Aug. 16 vs. FC Cincinnati
As one of the club’s first-ever MLS players, Diego Chara has appeared in more games than any other Timbers player in club history. On Aug. 16, against FC Cincinnati, this Portland star will be celebrated with a special, limited-edition bobblehead giveaway to the first 20,000 fans.
Cultural Celebrations
In addition to the 50th Anniversary celebrations, the season also features a number of unique cultural celebrations with special pregame performances, national anthem singers, limited edition scarves, area organizations and more all on hand.
