Thorns FC’s Christine Sinclair tallied the game-winning goal, the 149th of her international career, in the 80th minute of a 2-1 win over Mexico, helping Canda claim the BaoAn Cup title early Tuesday morning.
Canada scored minutes into the second half to take a 1-0 lead. Mexico would equalize in the 79th minute, but Canada quickly took back the lead as Sinclair found the back of the net just a minute later.
The goal was Sinclair’s second in her last three international matches, while the Canadian captain has now registered a point in three consecutive matches.
The win gives Canada the tournament title. Korea DPR can equal Canada on points, but Canada holds the tiebreaker with a head-to-head victory.
The tournament wraps up on Thursday, Jan. 15, as Canada takes on China at 3:30 a.m. (Pacific).
