TEGUCIGALPA, Honduras – The Portland Timbers arrived in Honduras Sunday to begin preparations ahead of their final Group 5 CONCACAF Champions League game against Liga Nacional 2014 Clausura champion CD Olimpia on Tuesday evening (7pm PT, FOX Soccer Plus).
The two teams met in Portland in August with the Timbers coming away the victors in a 4-2 win at Providence Park powered by a Maximiliano Urruti brace. Portland can win Group 5 with a win, draw, or even a loss on Tuesday.
After departing Portland Saturday evening and flying overnight through Houston, the team arrived at Toncontín International Airport in the Honduran capital of Tegucigalpa late Sunday morning. Sunny skies and a gathering of local media welcomed the team. Following a police escort through the frenetic city to the team’s hotel, the players met for a team meal followed by a pool session and a strong gym workout.
Monday’s schedule includes a full team training session in Tegucigalpa ahead of Tuesday’s match.
