The Portland Timbers were eliminated from the Scotiabank Concacaf Champions League quarterfinals when the club was defeated by Club América, 3-1 (4-2 on aggregate), on Wednesday at Estadio Azteca in Mexico City. Diego Valeri scored a penalty kick for the Timbers while goalkeeper Jeff Attinella delivered six saves in defeat.

76' — SHOT (POR) — Claudio Bravo whipped in a cross to Mora, who maneuvered around the defense in a tight space before sending a toe-poke towards goal only to be denied by Ochoa. 


90' — SHOT (POR) — Substitute Andy Polo delivered a pinpoint ball to a cutting Valeri, but Valeri's shot flew over the bar. 


Notes

  • Diego Valeri scored his 98th career goal for the Timbers.
  • Valeri has scored four goals in Concacaf Champions League play with two coming this season.
  • Valeri has a combined 200 goals plus assists in all competitions for the Timbers.
  • The match was the first time in team history that the Timbers played in Mexico. Mexico is the eighth FIFA nation that Portland has played in, joining the United States, Canada, Puerto Rico, Honduras, Guyana, El Salvador, and Costa Rica.
  • The Timbers were appearing in the quarterfinals of the competition for the first time.
