Moments after the World Cup draw was finished and the United States found themselves in a group with Ghana, Germany, and Portugal, pundits everywhere dubbed it The Group of Death. With myriad talents and storylines--Jurgen Klinsmann vs. Germany, USMNT vs. their bête noire in Ghana, Cristiano Ronaldo's virtuosity and Portugal--the U.S. squad knows they're in for a challenge.
But there's no shortage of confidence for the U.S. either. Landon Donovan told MLSsoccer.com recently, “I do agree it’s the 'Group of Death,' but the reason it’s the 'Group of Death' is also because we are in it."
Want to know more how the U.S. will approach this summer's World Cup? Timbers NASL legend and club alumni ambassador Mick Hoban will be giving a special lecture with American Outlaws Portland (AOPDX) tomorrow night at The Alberta Rose Theatre at 7pm PT. Hoban will be talking about the U.S' preparations for the World Cup, his background in soccer and an assessment of the Group of Death.
There will be loads of door prizes to be given away during the evening and AOPDX will also have their new "Death Becomes You" scarf (below) available for purchase.
Tickets may be purchased directly at the Alberta Rose Theatre box office at www.albertarosetheatre.com for $10 pre-sale or for $7 if you are a member of 107ist and/or AOPDX. Tickets will be $15 at the box office the day of the event. A portion of the evening's proceeds will benefit Timbers Stand Together partner AC Portland.
