Brazilian midfielder also named to the Team of the Matchday after recording first career brace vs. Vancouver Whitecaps FC
Portland Timbers midfielder Evander was named the MLS Player of the Matchday presented by Continental Tire for matchday 12, the league announced today. Additionally, Evander was named to the Team of the Matchday after notching his first career brace for Portland in the Timbers’ 3-1 victory over Cascadia rival Vancouver Whitecaps FC Saturday, May 13.
Evander, 24, notched his team-best third and fourth goals of the season in the Timbers match against Vancouver, leading the team in points (10 – 4g, 2a) in just nine appearances (seven starts) this year. The 24-year-old Brazilian has contributed to five goals in Portland’s last three matches (3g, 2a). With two goals on Saturday and two assists against Austin FC on May 6, Evander became the first player in club history to produce a multi-goal game following a multi-assist game. Notably, it was the fourth time Evander was named to the Team of the Matchday, twice as a starter (10,12) and twice to the bench (9,11).
Next up, the Timbers will travel to face Real Salt Lake for a midweek match on Wednesday, May 17 at America First Field, playing their fourth match in an eight-day span.
