PORTLAND, Ore. – Portland Timbers midfielder Evander has been named to Team of the Matchday for Matchday 21, the league announced today. Evander notched a goal and assist to lift the Timbers to a 2-1 road win over the San Jose Earthquakes on Wednesday night. It marks Evander’s seventh Team of the Matchday recognition of the 2024 campaign.
Evander registered a goal and an assist in the same match for the sixth time this season, setting a new single-season club record. The Brazilian midfielder scored his eighth goal of the 2024 campaign, tied with Felipe Mora for the team lead, and tallied his team-leading ninth assist of the year. Notably, Evander has helped Portland to a five-game unbeaten streak with three wins and two draws, while recording three goals and four assists in that span. With 17 goal contributions this season, Evander is tied for fifth-most in MLS.
Since joining Portland in 2023, Evander has notched 31 goal contributions (17g, 14a) in 42 regular season appearances for the Timbers. On Wednesday night, Evander set a new franchise record as the fastest player in club history to reach 30 goal contributions, previously set by Diego Valeri (45).
The Timbers will face a quick turnaround to host Cascadia rival Vancouver Whitecaps FC at Providence Park on Saturday, June 22 at 7:30pm PT.
