In a key Western Conference battle with a national television audience on NBC, the Portland Timbers traveled to Southern California to take on the LA Galaxy.
In the 14th minute, Timbers maestro Diego Valeri continued his incredible run of form with a beautiful curling free kick that gave Portland a 1-0 lead.
But the Galaxy kept attacking throughout the first half. Late in stoppage time, they found an equalizer as Robbie Rogers crossed to Gyasi Zardes.
Though the Timbers came out stronger in the second half, LA went ahead in the 73rd minute after Robbie Keane headed in a Landon Donovan cross.
Then, late in the second half, Robbie Keane added to the lead with a 85th minute penalty conversion.
