After being fouled just outside the box, Vancouver Whitecaps forward Camilo lines up a free kick and hits it over the wall and just inside the upper right corner. Vancouver leads 1-0 in the 24th minute.
Timbers start the comeback in the second half with some sustained pressure in the attacking third near the 51st minute. Will Johnson's shot gets blocked by a Vancouver defender's hand and the referee immediately points to the spot.
Will Johnson steps up in the 52nd minute and nails the penalty kick to make it 1-1.
Two minutes later, the Whitecaps come flying back the other end. Gershon Koffie takes a curling shot that goes top corner on the Timbers net making it 2-1 Vancouver.
But after a late red card cut the Timbers down to ten men, second half substitute Jose Valencia scores his first MLS goal to make it 2-2. The goal was a perfect show of strength and touch as Valencia jumps to win the ball, turns on his man and slots it home.
