Steven Evans, Timbers U-23s vs. Fraser Valley, 5.11.12

New Portland Timbers midfielder Steven Evans, the team's second Homegrown signing after Brent Richards, has had a stellar collegiate and Timbers U-23s career.

This past season in the Premier Development League, Evans was named the 2012 Timbers U-23s Player of the Year. Among his many highlights of his four-year career with the U-23s was an excellent brace scored at JELD-WEN Field against the Kitsap Pumas on May 24, 2012. Fans may also remember, Evans had the free kick assist on the game-winning goal to Brent Richards--also a member of that 2010 U-23s squad--that led to the 2010 PDL Championship victory. Watch them above.

While at the University of Portland, Evans starred with a career-high 14 goals in 19 matches in the 2012 season. Of particular note was this spectacular golazo against CSU Bakersfield:

He also combined with 2012 Timbers U-23s teammate Ricardo Carrillo for an excellent backheel goal for the Pilots against Gonzaga this season as well. Fast forward to the :44 mark:

The Oregonian had an excellent profile of Evans while at UP this season saying he could become, "one of the school's greats." Given the Pilots' history of producing soccer stars such as Heath Pearce, Steve Cherendolo and others, that is high praise.
