Portland Timbers midfielder Darlington Nagbe received his first start for the U.S. Men's National Team as they drew 0-0 with Serbia at San Diego's Qualcomm Stadium. Nagbe, placed on the left side in an attacking position in new USMNT head coach Bruce Arena's 4-2-3-1 formation, was creative and attacking throughout the match.
In the 29th minute, Nagbe received a pass from Michael Bradley on the left before narrowly missing the far post with a curling shot. Nine minutes later, after some nice combination passing with Jozy Altidore and a flick from Jermaine Jones, Nagbe just missed the right post on a low shot.
It marked the 11th USMNT cap for Nagbe and his first under Arena. The performance also earned Nagbe Man of the Match honors in his first ever start for the national team.
The USA will finish the January camp with a second friendly against CONCACAF rivals Jamaica on Friday in Chattanooga, Tennessee (4:00 pm PT on FS1, UniMás, UDN).
