Jaroslaw Niezgoda notched his second career brace and Bill Tuiloma tallied his first assist of the season
PORTLAND, Ore. – Portland Timbers forward Jaroslaw Niezgoda and defender Bill Tuiloma were named to the MLS Team of the Week for week 16, the league announced today. Niezgoda registered a brace in the June 25 match against the Colorado Rapids, while Tuiloma tallied his first assist of the season in his 90-minute performance. Niezgoda and Tuiloma are also tied for a team-leading five goals in the 2022 campaign.
Niezgoda, 27, landed three of four shots taken on target and two in the back of the net in the Timbers’ 3-0 victory. Averaging 0.46 goals per 90 minutes played this year, Niezgoda leads Portland in accurate shooting percentage (44.4%) and shot conversion (27.8%) this season. The Polish striker has tallied 15 goals for Portland since joining in 2020, including two career braces.
Tuiloma, 26, recorded his first assist of the year, totaling five goals and one assist (11 pts) on the season, starting in 13 of 15 appearances. Overall, Tuiloma has recorded nine goals and four assists in six seasons with the Timbers. This is the New Zealand defender’s third time being named to Team of the Week in the 2022 campaign.
Playing their second match in five days, the Timbers return to Providence Park to host the Houston Dynamo FC on Wednesday, June 29. The midweek match will kick off at 7:30 p.m. (Pacific) and will feature a local television broadcast on FOX 12 PLUS and radio broadcasts on 750 The Game (English) and La GranD 1150AM/93.5 FM (Spanish).
