Playing the first of back-to-back road matches against the San Jose Earthquakes a four-day span, the Portland Timbers recorded a 1-1 draw on Sept. 16 at Earthquakes Stadium. Yimmi Chara scored his first career goal for Portland in the 33rd minute as brother Diego Chara provided the assist on the play. San Jose notched the game-tying goal in the 76th minute as Vako collected a headed pass from Chris Wondolowski inside the box and delivered a shot that just crossed the goal line.
SCOUTING SAN JOSE
San Jose played host to the LA Galaxy on Sept. 13, playing to a scoreless draw in the match. The Earthquakes are winless in their last five matches after notching back-to-back wins on July 15 and July 19 in the MLS is Back Tournament. Chris Wondolowski leads the way for San Jose with a team-high four goals. Three other players have scored at least two goals for the Earthquakes this season: Oswaldo Alanis, Vako and Andres Rios. Cristian Espinoza has recorded a team-best four assists for San Jose this season.

Wednesday’s match marks the 25th regular-season meeting between the Timbers and the San Jose Earthquakes since the 2011 season. The Timbers lead the all- time regular season series against the Earthquakes with a record of 11-5-8. The 11 wins are tied for the most by the Timbers against a single opponent in MLS regular-season play. Their 41 points against San Jose are the most points Portland has against a single opponent.
MORA STREAKING
Felipe Mora has continued to make an impact, tallying a goal or an assist in four of his last five matches. He notched his first career MLS assist on the road against LAFC on Sept. 13. Mora entered the match as a substitute against Seattle on Sept. 6 and tallied the game-winning goal in the 83rd minute. Two of his three goals this season have come in a substitute role. In his first career start with the club, Mora played all 90 minutes and tallied a goal against the LA Galaxy on Sept. 2 He is now tied for second on the team with three goals this season. Mora is the first Timbers player to score in three MLS regular-season matches in less than ten days in club history. He is also the second Portland player (Jeremy Ebobisse) this season to score a goal in three consecutive matches.

Diego Chara assisted on Yimmi Chara’s goal, which made the Chara brothers the fifth set of brothers in MLS history to combine for a goal. They join Chris and Sean Henderson, Alex and Cristian Roldan, Bradley and Shaun Wright-Phillips and Jamar and DaMarcus Beasley.
