Leagues Cup 2024 gets underway on July 26.

For nearly a month, Major League Soccer and LIGA MX pause their regular seasons and all 47 first-division, professional clubs in the U.S., Mexico and Canada compete in a World Cup-style, official Concacaf sanctioned tournament, which will qualify the top three finishers to the Concacaf Champions Cup.

Who will the Timbers play?

Portland has been placed in the West 5 Group for Leagues Cup 2024 and will host Liga MX's Club León and MLS Western Conference foes Colorado Rapids in the Group Stage.

Tickets for both group stage matches are currently available via SeatGeek.

Leagues Cup 2024 Format

For 2024, Leagues Cup will be played in two regions, East and West, with seven groups in the East and eight groups in the West. Like the 2023 format, both reigning LIGA MX and MLS Cup champions will receive an automatic bye to the Round of 32.

All participating clubs – except the respective league champions – are divided into three tiers based league criteria and a Leagues Cup ranking system (1-15, 16-30, 31-45). A club from each tier form one group; there are 15 groups of three clubs each.

The top-two clubs from each group (30 total) are joined by the reigning MLS Cup (Columbus Crew) and Liga MX (Club América) champions and move on to the next phase of the tournament, the Knockout Rounds.

For the Knockout Rounds, the 32 advancing clubs are placed in a fixed, single-elimination bracket. The Leagues Cup Third Place match and Final will determine the three Concacaf Champions Cup qualified clubs.

No ties in Leagues Cup

Established during the 2023 tournament, Leagues Cup group stage matches will not end in tie, and winning side is determined in a penalty kick shootout. Each team receives one point if the game is tied after 90 minutes. The winner of the subsequent penalty shootout will earn an additional point. Regulation wins count as three points.
