PORTLAND, Ore. – With a goal called back following an offside call and another sure tally saved off the line, the Portland Timbers lost 2-0 to Atlanta United FC in a hard-fought match Sunday night at Providence Park.

2' - CHANCE (POR) - Portland drove forward with Sebastián Blanco blazing down the left channel. He curled a ball along the ground to Diego Valeri on the back post but the ball skipped just past the outstretched Timbers player.
8' - CHANCE (POR) - Back in the Timbers end, defender Jorge Moreira fought for control of the ball with some nifty foot work. He played a ball forward to Brian Fernandez who shed two defenders at midfield before moving down field. His ball out left found Blanco but the midfielder's shot was over the bar.
14' - GOAL (ATL) - On an Atlanta corner kick, A shot by Josef MartÃnez was saved at point blank range by Portland goalkeeper Steve Clark but the in the scramble following, Leandro González Pirez knocked in the rebound to give the visitors a 1-0 lead.
27' - CHANCE (POR) - Blanco, atop the 18-yard box, passed to Jeremy Ebobisse who then left it for Valeri. Valeri teed up a shot from the edge of the area that forced Atlanta goalkeeper Jeff Guzan to dive to his right and parry it away for a Portland corner.
42' - CHANCE (POR) - Jorge Villafaña, deep near the Atlanta endline, crossed a ball back into the mixer that Ebobisse jumped to head down on frame but right at Guzan who made the save.
44' - TACKLE (POR) - On a dangerous ball down the middle for Pity Martinez, center back Bill Tuiloma raced back and made a perfect tackle to knock the ball away before Clark could gather.
45+1' - SAVE (POR) - Moments later, after a turnover at midfield, Atlanta's Ezequiel Barco was on a breakaway towards the Portland net but Clark came off his line to make a spectacular save.
46' - GOAL (ATL) - Right after halftime, a through ball from Julian Gressel found MartÃnez atop the box who hit the ball into the upper 90 for a 2-0 Atlanta lead.
58' - GOAL (POR) - Blanco, with space outside the box, unloaded a shot that Guzman jumped to push over the bar.
65' - CHANCE (POR) - Off a Timbers corner where they played the ball short, Valeri juked past Atlanta's Justin Meram and lofted a cross to Julio Cascante on the back post. Cascante hit a hard header down and on goal but Guzan made an acrobatic one-handed save.
