PORTLAND, Ore. – In a hard-fought match, the Portland Timbers lost 1-0 to visiting Sporting Kansas City in front of 21,144 at Providence Park Saturday night. Sporting's Dom Dwyer scored the lone goal of the match in the 53rd minute.

34’ – CHANCE (Portland). After some sustained Timbers pressure, midfielder Diego Valeri fed the ball in from the edge of the area to Fanendo Adi but his shot was high over the bar.


53' – GOAL (Kansas City). Sporting Kansas City went out to a 1-0 lead as midfielder Jimmy Medranda received the ball and one-timed it to forward Dom Dwyer who headed it into the lower right corner of the Portland net.


60' – SAVE (Portland). After a turnover in the Portland end, Timbers goalkeeper Jake Gleeson came up big to deny KC's Gerso Fernandes' shot from close-range. 

78' – CHANCES (Portland). Adi one-touch, back-heeled a pass to the onrushing Darren Mattocks in the box who shot at close range but KC goalkeeper Tim Melia parried it away. Defender Alvas Powell headed the ensuing corner on-frame but it was saved off the line by a KC player.

79' – CHANCE (Portland). Timbers midfielder Darlington Nagbe let fly a curling shot from distance that Melia got a fingertip to and the ball pinged off the cross bar.
