PORTLAND, Ore. – Midfielder Andrés Flores scored his first goal of the season in his first appearance of the year and the Portland Timbers drew 1-1 with Seattle Sounders FC Thursday night at CenturyLink Field.
The draw keeps Portland level with Seattle on points atop the Western Conference.
10' - GOAL (POR) - Portland went out to a 1-0 lead as midfielder Andrés Flores, making his first appearance of the year, scored in the 10th minute. The goal came about as defender Jorge Villafaña crossed a ball from the left for forward Felipe Mora inside the Seattle box. Mora controlled the ball with some great hold-up play before he laid it off to midfielder Yimmi Chara. Chara blasted a shot that was saved by Seattle goalkeeper Stefan Frei but the rebound fell to Flores who fired it into the back of the net.
17' - CHANCE (POR) - Timbers with some nifty work on the left side saw Yimmi Chara sprung into the box. He carried to the endline and cut a ball back to Diego Valeri atop the six-yard box but the ball got caught in his feet and the shot went just wide of the left post.
58' - CHANCE (POR) - The Timbers pressured Seattle deep in their own end and caused a turnover on a ball forward from Frei. Villafaña picked off the pass, carried forward, and sent his cross in for Mora who headed it on frame but right at Frei for the save.
76' - CHANCE (POR) - Portland, following a corner of their own, collected the Seattle clearance and set up outside the area. Valeri ended up with the ball on the right side and hit a shot that was deflected just wide of the left post.
90+3' - GOAL (SEA) - On a Seattle corner kick, Sounders forward Will Bruin collected a loose ball on the back post and scored to make it 1-1.
