Before they were leading the Portland Timbers as head coach and assistant coach respectively, Giovanni Savarese and Miles Joseph were teammates on the New York/New Jersey MetroStars in the early days of Major League Soccer.
On today's MLS Classics: Remix, MLSsoccer.com goes back to a wild May 4, 1996 night that saw the MetroStars go down three goals early only to come storming back to tie at 3-3 thanks to a dramatic brace from Savarese who came off the bench in the 63rd minute. With then-MLS rules requiring a tie game to be decided by unique run-up penalty kicks, NY/NJ went on to win the match 4-3.
On today's live stream at 1pm PT on MLSsoccer.com and embedded above, both Savarese and Joseph (who started for NY/NJ in midfield) will join Tab Ramos – also a then-midfield starter for NY/NJ and current head coach of the Houston Dynamo – to talk about the exciting match with host Andrew Wiebe.
