Both players changed the game in Austin, TX
Portland Timbers defender Zac McGraw and midfielder Eryk Williamson were named to the MLS Team of the Week for Week 28, the league announced today. The pair helped Portland secure three points on the road with a 2-1 win over Austin FC on Wednesday night.
McGraw, 25, notched the game-winning goal in Portland’s match against Austin, and his first goal in MLS play. With consecutive 90-minute performances (Austin FC, Seattle Sounders), McGraw helped the Timbers’ backline limit both opponents to a combined seven shots on goal. This marks McGraw’s first career MLS Team of the Week award.
Williamson, 25, assisted Bill Tuiloma’s early go-ahead goal to put Portland ahead of Austin in Wednesday night’s victory. It marked a second-straight match Williamson has earned an assist from a set-piece play (Austin, Seattle). With his eighth assist of the season, Williamson is now tied with Sebastián Blanco for second-most assists on the team in the 2022 campaign behind Yimmi Chara (9). It marked Williamson’s second time being named to the MLS Team of the Week this season (week 18).
