The US women's national team defeated France, 4-2, at Hampden Park in Glasgow, Scotland, in their opening match on Wednesday at the 2012 Summer Olympics.
Alex Morgan scored twice to send the USWNT past their 2011 World Cup semifinal opponents, although the path was not an easy one. The French jumped out to an early 2-0 lead just 14 minutes into the match, before four unanswered tallies from the Americans sealed the full three points.
The win puts the US on top of their group for the moment, as their two other Group G oppnenets – North Korea and Colombia – will play their opening match at 2:45 pm ET on Wednesday. The US' next match will be Saturday at noon ET vs. Colombia, and will be televised on the NBC Sports Network.
