PORTLAND, Ore. – Portland Thorns FC goalkeeper Nadine Angerer has been named to the Germany National Team roster ahead of 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup Qualifying matches against the Republic of Ireland and Slovenia.
Playing in Group 1 of UEFA World Cup qualifying, Germany squares off against Republic of Ireland on April 5 in Dublin. Currently undefeated through five World Cup qualifying matches, Germany then plays host to Slovenia on April 10 in Mannheim, Germany. Germany has not conceded a goal in World Cup qualifying group play games, outscoring its opponents, 40-0.
Angerer, 35, was named the 2013 FIFA Women’s World Player of the Year after helping lead Germany to the 2013 UEFA Women’s European Championship. She recently helped guide Germany to the championship of the prestigious Algarve Cup with a 3-0 win over Japan on March 12. A two-time FIFA Women’s World Cup champion, Angerer has earned 129 caps for Germany during her international career.
The goalkeeper will miss Portland’s preseason match against Arizona State University on Sunday, March 30, but will rejoin Thorns FC prior to the team’s regular-season opener against Houston on April 12.
