PORTLAND, Ore. – The Portland Timbers today announced that the club has added veteran soccer broadcaster and Portland native Christian Miles to its broadcast team.
With Timbers broadcaster John Strong taking over the lead play-by-play duties for NBC Sports Networks’ Major League Soccer broadcasts, Miles will serve as the Timbers’ television play-by-play announcer for the remainder of the 2013 season. Miles will begin calling Timbers matches on Sunday, July 7, on the ROOT SPORTS broadcast of the club’s road match against the Columbus Crew.
Additionally, Timbers analyst Robbie Earle, who is a studio analyst for NBC Sports Network’s English Premier League coverage, will also further contribute to the network’s MLS coverage, but will remain a member of the Timbers broadcast team.
Miles has covered some of the best soccer leagues in the world as well as international soccer during an extensive broadcasting and television career. He spent nearly 15 years (1997-2012) as a host, reporter and play-by-play commentator for FOX Soccer, covering matches in England’s Premier League, Italy’s Serie A, Major League Soccer and other leagues across the world. Miles served as the host of popular FOX Soccer shows “Goals on Sunday” and EPL preview show, “Match Day.”
He joined the broadcast team of MLS club Chivas USA in its inaugural season in 2005 and was the club’s play-by-play announcer and pregame show host for eight seasons. Miles teamed up with the Pac-12 Network in 2012 and currently covers men’s and women’s soccer as well as other collegiate sports for the network.
Born and raised in Portland, Miles attended Wilson High School and graduated from Portland State University in 1996.
