The club’s extended road schedule to begin the season is due to completion work on a multiphase, $75 million stadium-expansion project that will add approximately 4,000 new seats to the east side of Providence Park and a host of amenities and improvements throughout the stadium.
Beginning Aug. 10 against Vancouver Whitecaps FC, the Timbers will open a 10-game homestand as part of playing 11 of their last 12 games to conclude the season at Providence Park. During that stretch, Portland will play host to Atlanta United FC in a rematch of the 2018 MLS Cup final on Aug. 18 and square off against Cascadia rival Seattle Sounders FC at Providence Park on Aug. 23.
In 2019, the Timbers will have more than a dozen matches featured on national television, including matches at Providence Park against LAFC (June 1), LA Galaxy (July 27), Atlanta (Aug. 18) and Seattle (Aug. 23).
The Timbers open Cascadia Cup play on May 10 on the road against Vancouver Whitecaps FC and travel to square off against Sounders FC in a nationally televised match on July 21.
During the 2019 MLS regular season, each club will play 34 games, including 17 home games and 17 away games. Teams will face each of their conference opponents twice during the season, with one game at home and one game away. All teams will face each non-conference opponent once.
Portland will face six Eastern Conference opponents at Providence Park this season.
