PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Major League Soccer announced that Portland Timbers Chief Operating Officer (COO) Mike Golub has been named the Doug Hamilton Executive of the Year for 2013 as part of the league’s year-end award, recognizing individuals and clubs for outstanding contributions off the playing field. The Timbers received a total of five awards for 2013.
Golub was named the Doug Hamilton Executive of the Year for a second time, also receiving the honor after the club’s inaugural MLS season in 2011. Under Golub’s leadership, the Timbers continue to see growth in key business areas, including tickets, corporate partnerships and local television ratings. The club has sold out 51 consecutive home matches since joining MLS in 2011. Portland sold out its season tickets for 2013, capping season ticket sales at 15,250 seats, and currently has a Season Ticket Waiting List numbering over 7,500 fans.
With more than 25 years of experience in professional sports management, Golub became the COO of the Timbers in March 2010, and oversees all business operations of the club.
The Timbers were the recipient of the Community Relations Department of the Year, presented by MLS WORKS for a second consecutive season. Portland also received Operations Staff of the Year and Security Staff of the Year, while staff member Chris Wilson was awarded the Supporter Liaison of the Year.
Additionally, the Timbers’ ticket sales department had two sales executives, Pat Rice and Katie Hoffner, recognized for their success in 2013.
