PORTLAND, Ore. – Portland Timbers defender Alvas Powell has been named to the Jamaica Men’s National Team roster for an international friendly against Canada on Sept. 9, it was announced today.
The Reggae Boyz square off against Canada in an international friendly on Tuesday, Sept. 9, at BMO Field in Toronto; kickoff is set for 7 p.m. (Pacific). Jamaica has compiled a 3-7-6 record against CONCACAF rivals Canada, lasting meeting in a friendly in 2010.
Powell, 20, has earned 12 caps for Jamaica since making his international debut on Dec. 10, 2012, including five appearances for the Reggae Boyz during 2014 FIFA World Cup qualification. Most recently, Powell started and played 90 minutes in a 2-1 loss against Serbia in a friendly on May 26.
In 2014, Powell has made eight regular-season appearances for the Timbers, including four starts. He recorded his first career MLS goal in a 3-0 win over Vancouver Whitecaps FC on Saturday. He also logged two appearances on loan with USL PRO co-affiliate Sacramento Republic FC this season.
Powell will join the Jamaica National Team following Portland’s regular-season match against San Jose on Sunday and will return to the Timbers on Sept. 10. He will not miss a regular-season game while away on international duty.
