PORTLAND, Ore. – Portland Timbers defender Vytas has been named to the Lithuanian Men’s National Team for a 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifying match, it was announced today.
Vytas and Lithuania will face Slovakia in Trnava, Slovakia, on Nov. 11. Vytas, 26, has earned 25 caps with Lithuania, most recently featuring in World Cup qualifying matches against Scotland and Malta in October.
After playing 26 minutes as a substitute in Lithuania’s 1-1 draw against Scotland at Hampden Park on Oct. 10, Vytas started and played 90 minutes in the team’s 2-0 win over Malta on Oct. 11, helping Lithuania achieve its first win during its 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign.
Joining the Timbers midway through the 2016 season, Vytas made 11 appearances (10 starts) for Portland, scoring one goal in his first season with the club.
