PORTLAND, Ore. – The Portland Timbers will play host to the San Jose Earthquakes in the fourth round of the 2018 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup at Providence Park on Wednesday, June 6, at 7:30 p.m. (Pacific), it was determined today as U.S. Soccer announced the fourth-round matchups.
Tickets for the U.S. Open Cup match at Providence Park are included as part of Timbers Annual Memberships. Individual tickets go on sale to the public on Wednesday, May 30, at 10 a.m. (Pacific) and will be available for purchase online at www.timbers.com, by calling (888) 736-6849 and at the Providence Park box office.
Due to the current Phase 2 stadium-expansion construction scheduling at Providence Park, the east side of the stadium (Sections 92-99; C1-5) will not be available for the U.S. Open Cup match and all seating will be general admission for this game.
With the announced pairing with San Jose, Portland will square off against an MLS opponent for a fourth straight year to open the competition. In their last three fourth-round matches, the Timbers have produced a 2-1 record dating back to the 2015 campaign.
The fourth-round match marks the first meeting between the two sides in U.S. Open Cup play since June 15, 2016, when the Timbers took a 2-0 win over the Earthquakes at Providence Park.
The U.S. Open Cup, recognized as the U.S. Soccer National Club Championship, is an annual competition open to all amateur and professional soccer teams affiliated with U.S. Soccer. Founded in 1914, the U.S. Open Cup will be conducted on a single-elimination, one-game knockout basis utilizing a tiered-bracket format.
