TORONTO –The Portland Timbers today announced that midfielder Will Johnson has undergone successful surgery in Toronto to stabilize a fractured tibia and fibula in his right leg.
Johnson, who sustained the injury during a tackle in the opening seconds of Saturday’s match against Toronto FC at BMO Field, is expected to miss approximately six months.
The injury occurred just moments following the opening kick of Portland’s road match against Toronto FC as Johnson and Toronto FC defender Mark Bloom collided legs while going to the ground for a loose ball near midfield.
In his second season with Portland, Johnson made 29 appearances for the Timbers in 2014, recording six goals and two assists while also earning AT&T MLS All-Star honors for a second consecutive year.
