The Portland Timbers Reserves travel to Los Angeles for their final road match of the 2013 MLS Reserve League season against the Chivas USA Reserves on Sunday at the StubHub Center; kickoff is set for 11 a.m. (Pacific).
Sunday's match marks the only time the two teams will meet during the MLS Reserve League season.
The Timbers Reserves (4-4-3, 15pts.) enter Sunday's match coming off a comeback 1-1 draw against the Real Salt Lake Reserves on Sept. 8 at JELD-WEN Field. Trailing 1-0 in the final minutes of the match after a goal netted in the 53rd minute by RSL's Devon Sandoval, Timbers Academy forward Anthony Macchione put in the equalizer in the 87th minute to tie up the game. The comeback draw improved the Timbers Reserves home record to 2-2-1 on the season.
The Chivas USA Reserves (3-3-1, 10pts.) captured a 1-0 road win over the Colorado Rapids Reserves at Dick's Sporting Goods Park on Aug. 27, their first road win of the season. Rapids goalkeeper Matt Pickens saved an initial shot made by Chivas USA midfielder Aaron Ponce, but the rebound deflected right back to Ponce who buried the second attempt in the net for the game’s lone score in the 50th minute.
The Portland Timbers Reserves are closing in on their final few matches of the 2013 season. Two of their final three games will be hosted at JELD-WEN Field on Sept. 21 and Oct. 14 against the Colorado Rapids Reserves and Seattle Sounders FC Reserves, respectively.
