PORTLAND, Ore. – The Portland Timbers selected goalkeeper Wade Hamilton from Cal Poly and defender Trevor Morley from Cal-State University Northridge during the final two rounds of the 2016 MLS SuperDraft, held Tuesday via conference call.

Portland selected Hamilton (No. 61 overall) with the 20th pick in the third round, while Morley was selected with the final pick of the draft (No. 81 overall) in the fourth round.

Hamilton, 21, was a two-time Big West Conference Goalkeeper of the Year at Cal Poly, earning the honor in 2014 and 2015. The Murrieta, Calif., native registered 18 clean sheets in 73 career appearances (72 starts) for the Mustangs from 2012-15. Named First-Team All-Big West Conference in his junior and senior seasons, Hamilton helped lead Cal Poly to the NCAA Tournament in 2015, earning eight shutouts, a 1.08 goals-against average and an 11-5-5 record as the Mustangs made their first appearance in the tournament since 2008. At the youth international level, Hamilton was part of the U.S. Under-17 Men’s National Team roster for the 2011 FIFA U-17 World Cup in Mexico.

Morley, 23, earned the Big West Defensive Player of the Year award as a senior in 2015, as well as First-Team All-Big West Conference honors for a third consecutive season, becoming the first CSU Northridge player since Sean Franklin (2005-07) to garner the recognition in three straight seasons. The San Diego, Calif., native helped the Matadors post 27 shutouts in four seasons, while also serving as team captain in 2015.
