PORTLAND, Ore. – With the help of local community partners and the city of Portland, the Portland Timbers will present their second-annual Stand Together Week from Aug. 4-10. The comprehensive, week-long community initiative supports dozens of nonprofit projects and volunteer opportunities across the city.
Stand Together Week, with the help of Hands On Greater Portland, will consist of upwards of 30 volunteer projects, benefitting more than 20 organizations focused on youth and the environment across the Portland metro area. Fans are invited to volunteer and team up with Timbers players, mascot Timber Joey, select Portland Thorns FC players, Timbers alumni ambassadors and club staff on the various projects.
The City of Portland will officially proclaim Aug. 4-10 as Portland Timbers Stand Together Week. Commissioner Nick Fish will read the proclamation on behalf of the Mayor and Portland City Council on Wednesday, July 24, at 9:30 a.m.
Supported by partners adidas, Alaska Airlines and CenturyLink, Stand Together Week kicks off Sunday, Aug. 4, with a community cleanup of Dairy Creek Park in Hillsboro. Each project will engage fans and community members and have a meaningful impact on the community.
In 2012, Stand Together Week volunteers donated nearly 1,500 hours of service to more than 30 local projects benefitting 26 nonprofits focused on youth and the environment, including Big Brothers Big Sisters Columbia Northwest, Portland YouthBuilders and Friends of Trees.
The volunteer opportunities affiliated with Stand Together Week, named after the Timbers’ community outreach platform, Stand Together, range from outdoor park/garden maintenance to construction projects and aiding in special youth initiatives. A complete schedule of activities and events is listed below.
All available Timbers players once again will volunteer their time to at least one project during the week.
