PORTLAND, Ore. – The Portland Timbers U-16 Academy team collected several end-of-year honors from the U.S. Soccer Development Academy following the conclusion of the 2014-15 season last weekend. Notably, Timbers U-16s head coach Andrew Gregor was named U-15/16 West Conference Coach of the Year, while midfielder Terrell Lowe earned a spot on the U-15/16 Starting XI list for the West Conference.
Gregor helped guide the Timbers U-16s to a second-place finish in the Northwest Division with a 16-8-8 (56pts) overall record and a berth in the 2014-15 U.S. Soccer Development Academy Playoffs. During the postseason, the Timbers U-16s earned two wins during the group stage and came within one game of advancing to the knockout round in their first postseason appearance. Portland ranked tied for fifth in the West Conference with 61 goals scored in 32 regular-season matches, while also putting together a seven-match unbeaten run from Jan. 18-March 7.
Lowe, 16, registered two goals in 28 appearances (all starts) for the Timbers U-16s during the 2014-15 U.S. Soccer Development Academy season. The Pocatello, Idaho native was a key factor for the Timbers U-16s throughout the season and earned a call into U.S. Under-17 Men’s National Team training camp for the first time from May 2-11.
Additionally, the Timbers U-16s earned the U-15/16 Style of Play Award for the West Conference.
