SAN JOSÉ, Costa Rica – The Portland Timbers defeated C.S. Herediano 3-0, in the last match of their Costa Rica portion of the 2020 preseason presented by Old Trapper Beef Jerky.
Playing four separate 30-minute sessions, Portland went out to a 1-0 lead in the first session when forward Felipe Mora scored his second goal of the preseason off an indirect free kick inside the Herediano 18-yard box.
Halfway through the final 30-minute session, Portland doubled their lead as attacker Dairon Asprilla broke forward through the Herediano line to slot a ball into the lower right corner and make the score 2-0. Asprilla helped make it 3-0 right before the final whistle as his cross into the box forced and own goal by the Costa Rican side.
The Timbers return to Portland to host a preseason tournament at Providence Park beginning on Feb. 16 against Vancouver Whitecaps FC (5pm PT, TICKETS). They will also host Minnesota United FC on Feb. 19 (7:30pm PT, TICKETS) and the New England Revolution on Feb. 22 (5pm PT, TICKETS).
