You earned your first international cap and first start for the U.S. Women’s National Team this year. How has that experience helped keep you motivated and pushing for more call-ups to the national team?
“My dream and goal is to play in the next FIFA Women’s World Cup and Olympics. Every camp I attend is a blessing and is helping me stay focused on my ultimate goal.”
Now that the FIFA World Cup has concluded, what did you think of the tournament overall? Were there any moments that really stood out for you?
“I am so sad it’s over! It has been so amazing being able to wake up and watch the best soccer in the world being played all day. Biggest surprises for me were Spain not getting out of their group and Brazil’s 7-1 loss to Germany. I love seeing all the upsets and smaller countries shocking the world with their talent. It has shown the growth of football all around the world. It’s great to witness."
Your professional career has taken you to places like Paris and Japan to play on short-term loan last December with Chelsea Ladies. Now that you’re closing in on two full seasons in Portland, what is it about Thorns FC that is different from other clubs?
“Portland is one of the best places to play. The fans, the atmosphere, the quality of the players, the coaching staff and the entire organization is the best in the world.”
The offensive side of your game has shown more this season than it did last year. Is that simply because you are playing more of an attacking role or was that a part of your game you focused on improving during the offseason?
“I am playing more of an attacking role, but this offseason I worked hard to improve every part of my game. My training has helped give me the confidence to play how I’m playing.”
We know you’re an East Coaster at heart, but what have you discovered about Portland that makes it a unique place for you?
“I love Portland because of the support we get on and off the field. The city is awesome and it’s beautiful.”
