This Sunday at Providence Park, the Portland Timbers play host to expansion side Atlanta United FC for the first time ever (1:00pm PT, ESPN). Here are the five numbers to know for #PORvATL in the latest edition of Quick Strikes.
3/4 For just the third time in MLS play and the fourth time in club history, the Timbers will be hosting a match on Mother's Day. Portland has never lost at home on Mother's Day with victories over Chivas USA (2013) and the Rochester Rhinos (2007 in the USL era) and a draw against the LA Galaxy (2014).
99 Forward Fanendo Adi will reach the century mark with his next MLS appearance, becoming the 21st player in Timbers all-era history to play 100 regular-season league matches for the club. Adi would become the sixth player with 100 MLS appearances for Portland joining Darlington Nagbe, Diego Chara, Jack Jewsbury, Rodney Wallace and Diego Valeri.
91 With the MLS debuts of Jeremy Ebobisse and Victor Arboleda last week against San Jose, Portland has now had 91 different players suit up in MLS regular-season competition since the club’s inaugural MLS season in 2011. Arboleda is the seventh Colombian to play in MLS for the Timbers while Ebobisse is the first Duke Blue Devil to be an MLS Timbers player.
13 Atlanta United enters the match having scored more road goals (13) than any other team in MLS this season. The Timbers, meanwhile, have scored a league-high 20 goals overall in 2017.
104 Sunday's match will be the first time the Timbers have squared off against Atlanta United. The expansion club will be the third team from Atlanta (Chiefs and Silverbacks) to face the Timbers and the 104th team ever to take on Portland in a competitive match.
