Quick Strikes: Five stats to know for Portland Timbers vs. Chivas USA | Aug. 9, 2014

Diego Valeri #3, Timbers @ Chivas, 10.26.13

The Portland Timbers return home to host Chivas USA following a memorable week of 2014 All-Star Week events (7:30pm PT KPTV). Against The Goats, Portland will have an opportunity to vault themselves above the red line and into the top five teams in the Western Conference. Chivas is in last place with just 23 points after 21 games played. Let's take a look at five numbers to know for Saturday's match.

Three Chivas USA are in the midst of a three game losing streak, the second-longest in MLS behind the Montreal Impact. Chivas has been outscored, 7-2, over that span, with two losses on the road and one at home.

11 Portland has picked up at least one point in 11 of the last 15 regular season matches. The run has kept the Timbers in the race for one of the five playoff spots in the Western Conference. They currently sit only three points behind fifth place Colorado Rapids.

Four Timbers leading assist man Diego Valeri has been one of the hottest players in MLS as of late, scoring in four of the last five games Portland has played, including knocking home a goal in three straight games. If Valeri scored against Chivas, he will tie Nagbe with 17 goals, the most of any Timber in MLS history.

36 The Timbers have turned into an offensive juggernaut, scoring 36 goals in their 22 games played. That number puts them atop the MLS, above Cascadia rival Seattle Sounders and New York Red Bulls, who field Golden Boot leader & recent 2014 MLS All-Star goalscorer Bradley Wright-Phillips.

1-0-1 Portland has yet to lose to Chivas USA this season, whether it be on the road in Los Angeles or within the confines of Providence Park. The Timbers have outscored Chivas 3-1 on the season.
