Quick Strikes | Mabiala has become Portland's iron man

Larrys Mabiala, Timbers vs. NYC, 4.22.18

The Portland Timbers will close out the longest homestand of their MLS era, when they square off with Cascadia rivals Vancouver Whitecaps FC, Saturday at Providence Park (8pm PT, ROOT SPORTS). Here are five numbers to know for #PORvVAN in the latest Quick Strikes.

27 Dating back to last season, defender Larrys Mabiala has played every single minute of 27 consecutive MLS matches for Portland (2,430 minutes). Only one field player in MLS has a longer active streak of consecutive minutes played (Sporting Kansas City's Ilie Sanchez - 2,880 minutes).

11 Starting with its shutout of New York City FC on April 22, Portland has conceded just 11 goals over the course of 14 matches. That is the fewest goals conceded in that time span by an MLS team and six fewer than any other club.

35 In MLS regular-season matches, the Timbers have scored 35 goals against the Whitecaps, which is the most Portland has scored against any single MLS team. Portland's 10 wins against the Caps are tied with the club's 10 wins over San Jose for most wins against a single MLS opponent.

10 Twenty games into the 2018 season, the Timbers have already secured wins. Portland reached the double-digit win plateau this year in the fewest number of games in any of its eight MLS seasons.

5 After a pinpoint assist to David Guzmán against Philadelphia, Diego Valeri is tied for the league lead in assists directly from free kicks with five. According to Opta, Valeri is also tied for first in MLS for most chances created direct from a free kick with 29.
