The Portland Timbers will head south for their first away match of the year when they face the LA Galaxy Sunday at the StubHub Center (4pm PT, FS1). Here are five numbers to know for #LAvPOR in the latest Quick Strikes.
15 Sunday's match will be the 15th time the Timbers have played at the StubHub Center, which is the most of any visiting stadium in the team's MLS era. Among away stadiums encompassing all eras of the Timbers, Swangard Stadium (Vancouver) and CenturyLink Field (Seattle) are the only other fields they've played at more than LA's home stadium.
14 Forward Fanendo Adi opened the season on the right track with two goals against Minnesota United FC. Adi had 14 touches in Minnesota's penalty area, which was five more than any other MLS player on the opening weekend of the regular season and was more than five other MLS teams had in total (FC Dallas, Atlanta United FC, Orlando City SC, Montreal Impact and New England Revolution).
3 With two goals and an assist against Minnesota, Diego Valeri was named MLS Player of the Week. It is the third time Valeri has won the honor, tying him with Adi for most MLS POTW recognitions on the Timbers.
4 New offseason signing David Guzmán was the only midfielder in MLS to record four or more tackles and four or more interceptions in the opening weekend of the season.
62.5 No team was better on 50-50 balls during the league's opening week than Portland. The Timbers won 62.5 percent of the duels they were involved in (50 of 80), which was the highest percentage among all MLS teams.
