Quick Strikes | Timbers head into MLS Cup as best road playoff team in league history

Sebastian Blanco, MLS Cup training, 12.4.18

For the second time in four seasons, the Portland Timbers will play in an MLS Cup when they square off with Atlanta United FC at Mercedes-Benz Stadium on Saturday (5pm PT, FOX). Here are five numbers to know for #ATLvPOR in a special MLS Cup edition of Quick Strikes.

+3 In MLS, Portland has a goal differential of +3 in its nine road playoff games all-time, which is the best road playoff differential in MLS history. Portland's five road playoff victories since 2013 are the most by any MLS team in that time span.

3 After his wonderstrike at Sporting Kansas City, Sebastián Blanco has scored three goals in his last four matches. Blanco is the only player to have scored in three different MLS Cup Playoff games this season.

6 The Portland Timbers have scored six goals after the halftime whistle in their 2018 playoff run. That is most goals scored by any team in the second half/extra time of matches this postseason.

4 Playing in the MLS playoffs for the fourth time, Diego Valeri currently leads all goalscorers in the 2018 MLS Cup playoffs with four goals scored. The four goals are the most scored by a Western Conference player in a single postseason since Robbie Keane in 2012.

7 The Timbers have seven players on their roster who played in their 2015 MLS Cup victory over the Columbus Crew. The returning players are Valeri, Diego Chara, Lucas Melano, Dairon Asprilla, Jorge Villafaña, Liam Ridgewell, and Alvas Powell
