It was a memorable night at Providence Park. Team Green and Team Gold, fittingly, played to a draw in the Green is Gold Charity Match. The co-ed teams of Timbers and Thorns players united to raise funds for the environment.
PORTLAND, Ore. – The Portland Timbers and Thorns FC came together on Wednesday night in front of over 10,000 fans at Providence Park for a mixed-teams charity match – Green is Gold – to support environmental nonprofits The Nature Conservancy and Keep Oregon Green.
Timbers Head Coach Phil Neville and Team Gold faced off against Thorns FC Head Coach Rob Gale and Team Green. Timbers midfielder Diego Chara and Thorns FC defender Meaghan Nally Co-Captained Team Green, featuring club legend Jack Jewsbury, while Timbers defender Eric Miller and Thorns FC defender Gabby Provenzano Co-Captained Team Gold with club legend Diego Valeri.
The 60-minute, full field match saw 12 goals between the two sides, ending in a 6-6 draw. Team Gold scored the opening goal in the 15th minute when Evander struck first, assisted by Jonathan RodrÃguez. Team Green equalized one minute later with a goal from Dairon Asprilla. Both teams went into halftime with a goal each before scoring five goals a piece in the second half. Asprilla, Evander, RodrÃguez, Callum Lugton, Ana Dias, Cally Togiagi, Janine Beckie Shelby Hogan and Santiago Moreno all tallied goals, with RodrÃguez registering a brace and Dias recording a hat-trick.
