No surprise: the hero of Columbus gets a nod from the league.
Portland Timbers midfielder Santiago Moreno was named to the MLS Team of the Week for week 32, the league announced today. The Colombian international tallied a stoppage-time equalizer in the 95th minute to secure a point on the road against Columbus Crew SC on Sunday, Sept. 18 at Lower.com Field.
Moreno, 22, recorded his seventh goal of the season, tying Sebastián Blanco for a team-leading 22 points this year, as both have tallied seven goals and eight assists. Notably, Moreno has contributed to a goal in three straight matches for Portland (2g, 1a). The midfielder is one of two Timbers players, alongside Yimmi Chara, that has played every match in the 2022 campaign, recording 32 appearances (26 starts). Sunday afternoon’s 90-minute performance marked his 11th of the season. Moreno ranks fourth on the team in minutes played this season (2,273) and fifth in the league in successful dribbles (71).
Following the upcoming FIFA window, the Timbers will return to action on Oct. 2 against LAFC at Providence Park.
