ROSE CITY UNITED| FIRST ANNUAL POLICE VS. FIRE MATCH
On September 11, teams representing the Portland Police Bureau and Portland Fire & Rescue squared off in the first annual “Rose City United” charitable match at Providence Park. The event was free to the public. Nearly $2,000 in donations were collected at the gates and were split between Portland Police Bureau’s Sunshine Division and Portland Fire & Rescue’s Toy N Joy Makers. Fans were treated to an array of interactive booths and tours of emergency vehicles before the game. The match kicked off under the direction of Timbers assistant coaches Sean McAuley (Police) and Cameron Knowles (Fire). Portland Fire took home the trophy winning 2-1 over the Portland Police. At the end of the night, the crowd gave both sides a standing ovation, applauding their efforts on the field, but also paying recognition to the sacrifices they make to serve the city of Portland. 4 Worlds United Soccer Alliance, Grow Portland, Lower Columbia Estuary Partnership, Oregon Mentors, Start Making a Reader Today, TOPSoccer, Trillium Family Services and Willamette River Keeper were recognized during halftime at the 9/7 match. These organizations will receive $67,500 through the Portland Timbers Community Fund!

Darlington Nagbe shot a PSA to for the “#TackleEbola” campaign, the team received the Portland Business Journal’s Corporate Philanthropy Award, Schillo Tshuma and Taylor Peay delivered backpacks to students at Jason Lee school on their first day of school and Maximiliano Urruti met with a Stand Together supporter after the 9/7 match. Timber Joey stayed busy too – he led the UCP Rock ‘n’ Run, Strut Your Mutt, Young Audiences Volcano Run and Parkinson’s Walk. He read to Alameda Elementary, attended pub parties and visited Playworks’ annual fundraiser.
SOMOS TIMBERS
Somos Timbers celebrated Hispanic Heritage Month with a networking event at Providence Park in the KeyBank Club. Attendees had the opportunity to mingle with Bryan Gallego and Jorge Villafaña. Raffle tickets were sold to support the Adelante Chicas soccer academy program. Over $2,000 was raised for the purchase of new soccer equipment that will be delivered next week.
