Jack Jewsbury played the hero Saturday as the 13-year MLS veteran delivered the game-winning goal to move the Portland Timbers into sixth place in the Western Conference. Here are three #StatMan takeaways from the match.
90+ Jewsbury's game-winning goal in stoppage time goes in the record books for a variety of reasons. The goal was the latest road goal in the five seasons that the Timbers have played in MLS and just the third time in MLS play that Portland has scored in stoppage time on the road.
50 The win was the 50th regular season victory in MLS play for the Timbers since the franchise's first MLS match, which also took place at Dick's Sporting Goods Park. Jewsbury and Rodney Wallace, who were both involved with the winning goal, were also on the field in Portland's MLS debut in 2011.
3Gastón Fernández originally put the Timbers on top with a left-footed shot that beat an outstretched Clint Irwin in the 38th minute. Going back to last season, Fernández has scored or assisted in each of his last three starts for Portland.
