PORTLAND, Ore. – Portland Thorns FC announced today that defender Taylor Comeau and forwards Kelsey Haycook and Sarah Jackson are available for selection to the game day roster as amateur players for Saturday’s match against the Boston Breakers at Providence Park; kickoff is 7 p.m. (Pacific).
Classified as amateur players, the three additions will provide Thorns FC with roster depth on Saturday as Portland will be missing Canada Women’s National forward Christine Sinclair and defender Rhian Wilkinson and Australia Women’s National Team defender Steph Catley to international duty.
Comeau, 21, led the University of California to its 11th consecutive NCAA Tournament berth during her senior season (2014), tallying a team-leading eight goals and six assists. During her career with the Golden Bears (2011-14), Comeau played 84 games, recording 10 goals and 11 assists. As a senior, Comeau started 21 of 22 games, recording three game-winning goals and earned NSCAA second-team All-Pacific region honors.
Haycook, 21, a two-time NSCAA All-American at La Salle University, holds multiple program records for the Explorers. During her career from 2011-14, Haycook established all-time career records for goals (60) and points (142). The 2014 Atlantic 10 Conference Most Valuable Player, Haycook set La Salle women’s soccer’s single-season record for goals (20) during her senior season, tied for third most in the NCAA, and points (43) while leading the Explorers to an NCAA Tournament berth.
Jackson, 23, played in all 22 games during her senior season in 2013 at Santa Clara University, helping guide the Broncos to one of their best seasons in the last decade, advancing to the Sweet Sixteen at the 2013 NCAA Tournament before falling in penalty kicks to Virginia Tech. As a senior, Jackson recorded three goals and four assists, earning honorable mention All-West Coast Conference accolades. As a youth international, Jackson participated in the U.S. U-17 National Team camp in 2008.
