And then there were three.
EA SPORTS unveiled their covers for their internationally best-selling FIFA 16 video game and two Thorns FC players were revealed on the featured cover with Alex Morgan for the U.S. and Christine Sinclair for Canada. They join teammate Steph Catley who won a fan vote last week to be on the Australian cover.
“As soon as we knew Women’s National Teams were joining FIFA 16, we immediately recognized that Christine and Alex would be the perfect cover athletes based on their accomplishments and what they represent for their respective countries and the sport of women’s soccer," said David Pekush, Sr. Manager of North America Marketing for EA SPORTS. "They are exhilarating players and exude heart and courage on the pitch, and we are extremely proud to be working with them this year.”
For the first time ever in the game's history, women's teams are included with the national teams of the U.S., Canada, Australia, Germany, England, Mexico, Sweden, Brazil, China, France, Italy and Spain all featuring. All of the Thorns who participated in this summer's 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup (Alex Morgan, Tobin Heath--U.S., Christine Sinclair, Kaylyn Kyle, Rhian Wilkinson--Canada, Steph Catley, Clare Polkinghorne--Australia, Jodie Taylor--England, Nadine Angerer--Germany) are playable in the game which will be released later this fall.
For Morgan, Sinclair and Catley, each of the respective covers also feature FC Barcelona star Lionel Messi.
